11TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

Location

The 2012 Symposium, hosted by University of Naples Federico II, is intended to provide an up-to-date review of advances in recent development of Web and Wireless Geographical Information Systems (W2GIS). W2GIS is a series of successful events alternating locations between EaSt Asia and Europe, with the most recent event held in Kyoto, Japan.
The 11th Symposium is returning to Europe, and in particular to the city of Naples (Italy).

Naples is located in the Southern part of Italy and is one of the most ancient cities in Europe whose contemporary urban fabric still preserves the elements of its long and eventful history. Its street pattern, its wealth of historic buildings from many periods, and its setting on the Bay of Naples give it an outstanding universal value without parallel, and one that has had a profound influence in many parts of Europe and beyond. In 1995, the city Naples became part of the Unesco World Heritage.

This year the city of Naples will host the America's Cup World Competition. The event will be held from the 7th to the 15th of April 2012. The race course will be just off the town, easily visible and very close to the conference location.

How to reach Naples and the Conference Location

The Conference Location will be held in the Congress Center located at Via Partenope, 36 - 80121 - Naples (the blue landmark on the above map).

Reaching Naples is as easy as drinking...an espresso :)
Thanks to its strategic position, Naples can be easily reached by air or by land.

In the following, we provide different solutions to reach the Conference Location starting from the Capodichino Airport or from the Railway station.

Railway Station to Congress Center by Bus

Once arrived in the Railway Central Station:

• Go to the Bus Terminal located in Piazza Garibaldi, just out of the station.
• Take the R2 bus and get off at Municipo (the eighth stop). R2 buses run every 7/8 minutes from the Terminal.
• Walk for less than 2 Kms following this path.

As well as healthy (thanks to the walk), this solution is very cheap since it costs only € 1.20 for the bus ticket.

Railway Station to Congress Center by Train and Bus

Another affordable solution from the Railway station could be taking a train and then change to a bus.
In more details, once in the Railway station:

• Take the Metro Line 2 directly from the station.
  (please follow the indications for Metronapoli Line 2 and/or for Platform 4)
• Get off at the fourth stop, Mergellina.
• Exit the station and take the C24 bus. (Timetable)
• Get off at the ninth stop (V. Partenope), just in front of the Conference Location.

Please note that this solution is as cheap as the previous one, since you can take both the train and the bus by using the same ticket that costs € 1.20.

Railway Station to Congress Center by Taxi

There is a standard fare of € 11.50. In order to get such fare, please remind to specify Alberghi Lungomare as desired destination when getting the taxi from the Railway Station.

We highly advice to get only authorized taxis, that can be easily recognized by the fact that they are white and expose one of the following two logos:

Capodichino Airport to Congress Center by Bus

There is a special bus connecting the Capodichino Airport to the Centre of the City, Alibus, that runs every 30 minutes (Timetable) from the station located 200mt out of the Airport.
Tickets cost € 3.00 and can be bought directly on board the bus or also at the Sun Store shop placed in the Airport.

Once taken the Alibus:

• Get off at the last stop (Municipio/Molo Beverello)
• Walk for about 200mt sud-east to Via Acton
• Take the bus 154 (Timetable).
• Get off after six stops (Via Partenope).

The stop will be placed few meters before the Congress Center.

Capodichino Airport to Congress Center by Taxi

Also in this case, there is a standard fare of about € 23. In order to get such fare, please remind to specify Alberghi Lungomare as desired destination when getting the taxi from the Airport.

Welcome Reception
The Welcome Reception will take place at the Restaurant “Regina Margherita” located in Via Partenope, 19, Naples.
From the Conference Location, if you look at the sea, turn right and walk just one block.
It will be an easy and informal pizza-based event, just to introduce each other.
The event will start at 19:30.

Social Dinner
The Social Dinner will take place at the Restaurant “Transatlantico” located in Via Luculiiana, 15, Naples.
From the Conference Location, if you look at the sea, turn left and walk just one block.
The event will start at 19:30.
Organizers will wait for attendees outside the Conference building from 19:15 to 19:25.
